Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Simpler recycling legislation?
Simpler Recycling, which came into effect on March 31st 2025, requires businesses and relevant non-domestic premises with more than 10 Full Time Equivalent employees (FTE) in England to arrange for the collection of the core recyclable waste streams, with the exception of garden waste (glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste).
This will be applicable to all businesses regardless of size from March 31st, 2027 at Smiths News Recycle , our aim is to make compliance simple for our customers. We offer a Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) collection service where you can mix cardboard, paper, metal tins and cans, plastic bottles/tops, pots and tubs and drinks cartons. If you have large amount of cardboard, we also offer a separate collection.
If you want to learn more about Simpler Recycling, please visit the dedicated page on the Department for Environment & Rural Affair (DEFRA)’s website – here.

Is there any limit to the number of bags I can leave out?
Not if you are on a Pay as you Go service. However, on some packages there is a weekly limit. Please check your service agreement and note additional bag charges if you exceed your agreement.
How often can collections take place?
Collection frequency can be tailored to your needs, from daily collections to ad‑hoc services depending on waste type and volume.
How quickly will I receive my bags/labels to start using the service?
We aim to have your account set up and ready to use within 5 working days. Our onboarding team will keep you updated throughout the onboarding process.
